Introducing the Colombo Filippetti VELOMAT series of high-speed, fully-synchronized cam operated assembly machine chassis.  These chassis, also known as base machines, are used in conjunction with the Colombo Filippetti family of standard and patented, pre-engineered pick-and-place “motion modules,” guarding and control components to quickly and efficiently fabricate a production machine. 

The units consist of a standard Colombo Filippetti “Rigidial” indexer, which is driven by a globoidal cam.  The Rigidial indexer has a large stationary center column, on which part manipulators, selected from a pre-engineered family of pick-and-place “motion modules” and second-operation devices, are mounted.   A drive shaft through the center of this stationary center column is linked to the manipulators and auxiliary stations.

The frame of the machine is a steel fabrication with a heavy steel top plate and circular tee slots used for locating and mounting the part fixtures and tooling.  The Rigidial indexer is mounted onto the top plate, and a single drive motor that is located in the base is used to drive the Rigidial indexer, pick-and-place manipulators and auxiliary stations.  The Rigidial indexer, manipulators and auxiliary stations are then mechanically synchronized for trouble free, high volume production.

           Velomat’s innovative design incorporates several patented features that deliver a unique combination of smooth, gentle motions and accurate, high-speed positioning at impressive cycle rates for a very affordable price.

 

 

 

 

Velomat base machines are delivered fully assembled, so tooling-up the machine can begin immediately.  Only the feeding devices, tooling nests, part grippers and control components need to be added.  This makes Velomat ideal for end users with some in-house engineering capabilities or those working with a local design house. Plus, it is useful for equipment suppliers who have limited engineering and manufacturing resources but need to deliver assembly equipment to customers in a timely manner.  It is not uncommon for tooling to be designed and detailed in a fraction of the time typically required for a specially designed assembly machine.
