CUT

The "CUT" series TOOL CHANGERS are mechanical cam units that transform a uniform rotary motion of the input shaft into a composite motion of the output shaft. The synchronized combination of rotational and linear movements performed by the output shaft produces the cycle that carries out the rapid interchange of tools between magazine and machine spindle.

Currently manufactured in three frame sizes: CUT31, CUT41, CUT51 tools with ISO30, ISO40, ISO50 and HSK taper. The tool change gripper double-arm has an automatic lock for the tools during motion. Exchange arms are available for various tool exchange center distances from 400 to 850 (mm) and made for most tool systems.

The CUT tool changers can be assembled with rotary tool storage magazines. These devices are called CTM.

VTC

This is a new generation of vertical tool changer; - a mechanism that gives the complete tool changer motion cycle but contained within more compact dimensions. Both exchange time and rigidity are improved. VTC is currently manufactured for size 40 taper tools or size equivalents.

VTC is another result of continuous improvements of Colombo Filippetti products.

VTC is available in 60° or 90° rotation gripper arm parking: extraction stroke from 60 to 110 (mm), for ISO40 and HSK63 taper.

HTC

The HTC (Horizontal Tool Changers) devices are mechanical, machine-independent tool changer assemblies which, by means of a cam drive, transform an incoming uniform rotary motion supplied by a gear-motor into a regular series of stop-and-go linear and rotary movements of the output shaft onto which the arm of the tool gripper is fixed. The synchronous combination of movements performed by the gripper arm provides the typical tool change motion cycle.

Currently manufactured in three frame sizes: HTC140-40-50 for tools with ISO 30, 40, 50 and HSK 63-80-100 taper. The tool change gripper arm has an automatic lock for the tools during motion. Exchange arms are available for various tool exchange center distances from 470 to 580 [mm] and made for tool from 10 to 25 [KG] weight.

HTC-T

In most machining centers with horizontal spindle axis, it is normal for the tool-magazine to be in a protected area of the machine. This area is generally separated from the working area by means of a bulkhead in which there is a door opening. Only when exchange of tools is made, is the door opened and closed.

For the fastest tool exchange time, the door movement in the bulkhead must be synchronized with the movement of the tools exchanger. HTC is equipped with an extra output shaft that is used for rapid opening and closing of the door in perfect synchronization with the tools exchange motions..

This evolution of the HTC40 mechanism is known as HTC 40T.

CTM

CTM Tool Changers with rotary tool storage magazines  mechanisms are designated CTM and are designed and manufactured to carry a tool change gripper arm in an automatic and synchronized motion on machine tools.
The rotary motion magazine is indexed by a disk to a tool exchange position where the tool cell is pivoted 90° by means of a pneumatic cylinder.
When the cell is in the change position, the gripper arm picks up the tool by means of a uniform rotary and linear motion, taking the tool from tool magazine and changing its position with another tool in the machine spindle.
The complete cycle of synchronized motion by the gripper arm made by a single rotation of the input shaft.
CTM Tool Changers with rotary tool storage magazines are available in four sizes: CTM 20, CTM 30, CTM 40, CTM 50. These sizes vary depending on the dimensions and characteristics of the tools to be used with the magazine.
The standard capacities of the rotary magazine are 12, 20, 30, or 32 tools.

CTA

The automatic tool changer with ring-shaped tool crib is an essential component for numerically controlled machine tools. It is generally installed on vertical machining centers, but it can also be used on horizontal machines. It comes in the following versions:

CTA 50 fits cones of the following types: ISO 50, ISO 45, BT 50, HSK 63, HSK 80 and HSK 100 for tools with a maximum weight of 20 kg.

CTA 40 fits cones of the following types: ISO 30, ISO 40, BT 40, HSK 50, HSK 50, HSK 63 for tools with a maximum weight of 10 kg. This type is still a prototype and will be available in 2003.

Tool cribs are manufactured in all dimensions as follows: for 30, 40 , 50 and 60 tools in the standard versions; however, given its modularity, tool cribs can also be made available upon request for a different number of tools.

The CTA 50, just like the CTM 50, is light and can be easily installed on machines with turn-able standards and quick traverse.

The CTA-type tool changer consists of a CUT-type cam exchanger and a patented ring-shaped tool crib. This tool crib does not use a chain, like most tool cribs do, but uses a series of self-driving steel carriages that carry the tool-holding bushes and can be easily disassembled and replaced.

The support is made of extruded aluminum therefore, the whole mechanical unit is extremely light.

The operation is carried out by self-braking asynchronous three-phase motors, just like in the CTM-type.

The standard operating mode is random. It is also possible to create a system for a "fixed place" operation. However, this will slow the tool exchange operation.

CTNE

The CTNE 50 type shuttle tool changer are particularly useful for numerically controlled machine tools with turn-able and fixed standards.
This device does not block the range, except for the changing of the tool, because during the operation periods it is on the side of the machine standard.

CTNE 50 fits cones of the following types: ISO 45, ISO 50, BT 50, HSK 63, HSK 80, HSK 100 and is completed by a ring-shaped tool crib for 30, 40, 50, 60 or 70 tools.

This type can carry out the tool exchange thanks to a vertical and horizontal spindle ("O+V" version). The operating mode can be both "fixed place" and "random" according to needs. It consists of a shuttle that slides on a prismatic guide. This guide is generally fixed to the standard of the machine, that holds the tool changer. In the "O+V" version, the tool changer unit is turned over by 90°.

The tool crib is ring-shaped in the CTNA version (see the description of the CTA-type), while it is wheel-shaped in the CTNR version (see the description of the CTM-type).

It is necessary to remark that shuttle tool changers, unlike others, are not operated hydraulically but through electromechanical and pneumatic operations. Using such operations entails a series of advantages, such as:
